Cowberry Jelly and Sea Buckthorn leather

Cowberries can be used to preserve other fruit by putting in cold water and can be left for a few months. See Ray Mears, Wild Britain
Vaccinium vitis-idaea Cowberry
Natural preservative found in berries which also make good jam.

Sea Buckthorn has a natural setting agent which means it can be broken up then left and naturally sets into a fruit leather.

Talcum Powder: wind direction finder

Swedish Log Torch/Stove

A way of keeping your fire burning from a log for excess of 2 hours using just one log cut into quarters which draws air into the centre of the log.

Reed Pith-fire tinder and candle wick


The inner pith from reeds can be stripped out and used:

-Tinder fire lighting- foamy material takes up a spark well by collecting it into small bundle then spark with strike alight.

-Wicks for candles by being dipped in bees wax, tree resin or used as a wick for oil lamps
